Becoming Aware

The newspapers of the day begin to carry articles about urban pollution and other public health issues that confirm his personal beliefs. The words of biologist Rachel Carson in Silent Spring, the warnings from the Club of Rome, and the emergence of environmental problems at the global level finally convince him: politics and business are not the best places to develop a thoughtful, long-term solution. He is worried and "revolted by the disregard with which humanity acts, and its pretensions to being a superior species, entitled to dominate the world. […] The stronger humans become, the more they destroys, without thinking about the time, the effort, the miracle it takes to create life."
