Mon Alsace
“After the Second World War, I returned to my Alsace » and, by bicycle, travelled the region’s four corners, from north to south. I filled my sketchbooks with detailed drawings of old presses, wine cellars, castle ruins, woodcutters with their schlittes (sledges)… The vineyards, the medieval architecture of the villages with their beautiful fountains surrounded by flowers — the Alsace of this era had a timeless beauty that has since been dramatically altered by modernity and tourism.”
