Viticulture
Thanks to the influence of nearby Germany, over the centuries Alsatian viticulture (wine-growing) has evolved differently to that of other regions of France. Alsatian winemaking remains distinctive to this day in terms of both its grape varieties and its methods of production. The vineyards, often located on mountain slopes, produce Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Riesling and other grape varieties. Over time, local winemakers have developed a diverse spectrum of white wines that have earned the region its renown.
